# Brady v. Maryland

## Holding used

Suppression of favorable evidence material to guilt or punishment violates due process irrespective of prosecutorial good or bad faith. The later cases in this module supply the no-request, impeachment, cumulative-materiality, and prosecution-team refinements.

## Material limitation

The Court affirmed a remedy limited to punishment on the record before it. The opinion does not create a general open-file rule or one nationwide production calendar.
